Dead Kooks is the brand created by Australian shaper, Eden Saul, from Byron Bay.
Years ago, fresh out of school, there was a bunch of broken boards in my backyard. I had a friend spray paint the words "Dead Kooks" and a cross on one of them - it just seemed funny enough. Around the same time, I had made some boards and, for fun, a friend drew a very sparse man on fabric with a coffin and the words "Dead Kooks" underneath. Without much thought, I continued to draw these logos on boards, and now here we are. Dead Kooks surfboards are built with a strong sense of functional design and challenging aesthetic details. I personally shape all the boards and work closely with some of the best glass shops in the world. My goal is to create custom boards, but I also offer limited editions of my most popular designs that have been refined through years of R&D and feedback from some of the world's best surfers I'm lucky enough to work with and call friends. Spending the following summer from Byron Bay, Australia to Venice Beach, California, I also take frequent surfing and shaping trips to Hawaii, Japan, Bali and France. The ability to chase the swell around the world every year has given me a rich understanding and first hand experience of what designs work best around the world. In addition, it has given me the chance to collaborate and learn from some of the best shapers. These experiences over the past decade, combined with the relationships I've developed with some incredibly talented surfers, have given me the opportunity to offer you a range of highly refined designs to suit your needs and desires in a board.
