Roger Hinds

Roger Hinds has spent over 40 years in the surfboard shaping business, and has seen the evolution of this multi-faceted field. He started out creating longer, sleeker boards during the transition era, then honed his skills under the tutelage of such greats as Ed Angulo, Jeff Edwards and Kent Smith. He has worked with top riders spanning all eras and disciplines, including Jock Sutherland, Mike Armstrong, Rusty Keaulana and Taylor Jensen. He has worked for such well-known brands as Blue Hawaii, Russ K, Harbour, Hobie and Weber, as well as Bear USA as a senior shaper. His attention to detail has led him to design some of the most popular plugs for Clark Foam and US Blanks. In 2014 and 2015, he won back-to-back Icons of Foam shape-offs, a shaping competition held at the Boardroom Show, honoring Ben Aipa and then Rusty Preisendorfer. He also finished second in the Ultimate Craftsman Project at the same show, losing by only one-tenth of a point. The quality of his work is reflected in every aspect of the board, from the shape and finish to the glass and color. Roger Hinds is a true artist of board construction.
