Ecology is a subject that is increasingly on the agenda. With increasing pressure on the planet and its resources, recycling and upcycling are critical ways to reduce waste and conserve resources. In this article, we will explore the different ways we have implemented Shapers Club in an eco-design approach.
In the surfboard manufacturing community, taking concrete green steps to help protect the environment and limit waste production is possible. For example, we recently launched a 100% eco-designed linen surfboard. This durable board is made from sustainable, responsibly grown flax, organic foam pad and recycled Arkema Helium resin.
We also launched a line of surfboards made from Airbus' up-cycled materials. We are proud to offer environmentally friendly products. These products are tangible proof of our commitment to environmental protection.
In addition, we have taken the initiative to pay the Ecologic ecotax in the gliding industry. By paying this tax, Shapers Club is clearly committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility and hopes that this decision will encourage other companies in the industry to follow suit.
For those who are not familiar with the ecotax, it is a tax on products and packaging that have an environmental impact. This tax is used to fund recycling programs and other environmental initiatives.
With over 30 years in the business, we are proud to have always chosen to work with high quality materials that allow for a longer life of our products unlike many low cost manufacturers. We all know that disposable is bad for our environment. And it's always a feeling of a job well done when you see boards made 30 years ago coming back to the workshop for a repair and being able to go back in the water to give a lot of pleasure again.
Last point in our "common sense" strategy (towards our limited carbon impact), we have decided for several years to group as much as possible our supplies of raw materials, by constituting stocks, thus avoiding the round trips of deliverymen. (According to ADEM studies, this can represent up to 20% of a product's carbon footprint)
In conclusion, recycling, upcycling, quality materials, and smart transportation management are important ways to reduce waste and conserve resources. By taking concrete steps to adopt greener practices, we can all contribute to the protection and preservation of our environment. The time to act is now to ensure a more sustainable and secure future for generations to come.
